I received an ARC of His Secret Muse by Linnea May in exchange for an honest review. I have never read anything by this author, prior to reading this book.Overall, I really enjoyed this book. Always curious when tackling a book by an author I've not read previously, and this book turned out to be a pleasant surprise. I would read more books by Ms. May. I won't recap the plot, that's the Amazon synopsis' job, but I will tell you that this book is reminiscent of Fifty Shades of Grey. So if you ain't into that, continue shopping for another book. At times, the plot seems a bit derivative of Fifty, but the author incorporates enough differences in the storyline and in the character development that she saves it from that. But again, if you no likey Fifty Shades, please move on. If you aren't comfortable with some pretty straightforward BDSM, then move along. One particular BDSM scene is harsh, to the point that I thought Ms. May was setting the stage for a break up, much like the end of Fifty Shades #1, but no, the heroine decides to stay with him. I thought that decision wasn't explored sufficiently. This is a strong woman, so that decision needed to be framed up a bit more to make it believable. If her decision is indeed based on her being the perfect submissive, as our hero says several times, I think that could have been established more in the character development of Renee. As it was, I had to accept her decision because, hey, it's just a book after all, and keep reading. I like the premise of the book, with him being a writer and her not being a fan. It wasn't even that she disliked his books, he just hadn't made it onto her radar screen at all, and her indifference to his professional success played well as the initial interactions between these two characters occurred. I would rather have learned about his background (finally!) in some "show don't tell" scenarios, rather than him explaining himself to her in a single, albeit heartfelt, conversation. The book was from a single point of view, so there were limited ways to have handled that, but I would have liked to see hints of his childhood, etc., throughout the book in the form of dreams or his inner dialogue. The information came all at once and later in the book than I would have liked. It would have made the plot more interesting to have an idea (but not complete understanding) of what was driving his interest in a relationship with her. Just on a personal note, I don't enjoy storylines that skip ahead by several months at a time, so that I feel like I don't know the characters at all by the time the story picks up again. This happens several times in this book, and it doesn't affect my rating at all because it's just a personal preference of mine, but yeesh, I do find it distracting as I'm reading along. I lose all sense of intimacy between the characters when we repeatedly leave their story for months at a time and are dropped back into the plot months later. But I also acknowledge that the lengthy timeframe was a deliberate decision by the author, and, really, she wasn't writing War and Peace here. So the time sequences served a purpose for the author's goals of creating an established relationship between the two characters, but it's just not what I enjoy reading. All in all, I liked this book a awful lot and would recommend it to someone who is very comfortable with reading novels that include a strong BDSM theme. I look forward to reading more of Ms. May's work!

His Secret Muse A Billionaire Romance His Muse Book 1 eBook Linnea May Reviews
This books sucks you in from the beginning. The submissive obviously likes pain play so if you're uncomfortable with that this may make you cringe a little but there's nothing outrageous. I got sucked in right from the start, and even this terrible headache didn't stop me from reading. Yum!
This is the first book I read by Linnea May and really enjoyed it. I could not wait to see how the story was going to end. I am looking forward to reading the next installment.
This story was anything but regular. I enjoyed this book for the dynamic of the characters the coolness of Cedric mixed with the skittishness of Renee with a dollop of angst. I usually don't enjoy love stories that have as much complexity as this one did but I believe the ending was beautiful.
There were parts of this book that just made me cringe. A good Dom never punishes his sub in anger. Never! He calms down first. What really got me though was the ending or maybe I should say non-ending. It was just over and then it says if I sign up for the author's newsletter I can read more of their story. No thank you!
It's a real bummer when your friend drags you to a book reading that you have no desire being at. Little did Renee know that that one event would change her life for the better. I had to laugh when Renee was busted rolling her eyes when Cedric was answering the moderators questions, she was hysterical with the eye rolls and the lack of applause, for a person that wants to be overlooked she sure did stand out. Of course Cedric notices her and calls her out on it by bringing her onstage to answer some of his questions.
The chemistry worked between the two, I wouldn't say it was off the charts but they were defiantly hot together. I loved the ending! Now I have to read His Muse's Fidelity.
Actually I loved this book. I liked the characters and the plot from the beginning. While I agree with other reviewers that some elements of the story may not have been fleshed out enough (no pun intended), I do recommend this book. I don't, as a rule, fill in the plots for these books and specifics, but will say that these lovers need each other in ways that advance and improve through the course of the book. I do believe you will enjoy reading this one.
What a sweet way to romance a woman away, yes? No! After an embarrassing encounter, sweet, shy Renee is taken back by Cedric and his request to see more of her. When they finally do get together for that dinner, the sexual tension runs thick and quick and she instantly obeys every command, really? I don't know if it could happen that way but I'll give it writers prerogative. Steamy, yes. Romantic, sorta. I only landed on a three because it felt like the writer ran out of steam toward the end and shut it down abruptly. I think after she walked out, more could have been said to reconcile then bring about a smoother conclusion instead of a quick ending. Overall, a good storyline, character development and conclusion.
